New eye drug aims to halt blinding disease

Summary
This study is testing a medicine called BI 1584862 to see if it can slow the progression of geographic atrophy, a severe form of dry age-related macular degeneration that causes permanent vision loss. About 150 adults aged 50+ with this condition will be randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or a placebo for one year. Doctors will use detailed eye scans to measure if the medicine reduces the rate at which the disease damages the retina.
