Virtual vs. real: which exposure therapy works best for agoraphobia?

NCT ID NCT06514495

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looks at how two types of therapy—real-life exposure and virtual reality exposure—affect body awareness and stress responses in people with agoraphobia (fear of places like crowds or public transport). Researchers will measure heart rate, stress hormones, and immune markers in 68 participants before and after therapy. The goal is to understand how these treatments work on a biological level, not to test a new cure.
