Robot suit gets ICU patients back on their feet after chest surgery

NCT ID NCT07220733

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether a self-balancing exoskeleton called Atalante X can safely help patients walk soon after chest surgery in the ICU. Being immobile after surgery can cause muscle weakness and slow recovery. The exoskeleton supports standing and walking, reducing strain on staff. Five adults recovering from thoracic surgery will try up to 3 sessions per week for 2 weeks, with the main goal of checking safety and seeing if it's practical to use in the ICU.
