Exercise program aims to boost heart health in young cancer survivors
NCT ID NCT04765020
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week exercise program can improve cardiorespiratory fitness in children and teens who have finished cancer treatment. Participants, aged 7 to 23, will be randomly assigned to either the exercise program or general activity recommendations. The main goal is to see if the program increases oxygen uptake during exercise, a key measure of fitness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
moderate to high-intensity exercise program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that structured exercise helps young cancer survivors recover their physical fitness and overall health.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 56 participants, so results may not apply to all children. The exercise program may be too intense for some, and adherence could be a challenge.
