Exercise as medicine: new study tests if sweating it out boosts mental health

NCT ID NCT06338917

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a 28-week moderate-to-vigorous exercise program can help people with severe mental illness improve their daily functioning, thinking skills, and mood. About 100 adults aged 18–69 who are not hospitalized will either join the exercise program or continue their usual care. The goal is to see if adding exercise with behavior-change support makes a real difference in recovery.
