Summary

This study compares personalized lung recruitment pressure (based on esophageal pressure measurements) with standard fixed pressure in 90 adults undergoing laparoscopic surgery in a head-down position. The goal is to see if the personalized approach improves lung function and reduces complications. Participants will be randomly assigned to either method, and outcomes like lung compliance and recovery time will be measured.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Esophageal balloon catheter procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to safer, more effective lung recruitment techniques during surgery, reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 90 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The procedure involves inserting a catheter, which carries minor risks like discomfort or bleeding.
