Surgical technique tested to reduce dangerous leaks after cancer removal

NCT ID NCT07363629

Summary

This study tested if preserving a small artery (the right gastric artery) during a specific type of esophageal cancer surgery leads to fewer complications. It involved 120 patients who were randomly assigned to have the artery either preserved or tied off. The goal was to see if better blood flow to the rebuilt stomach tube reduces the risk of leaks and narrowing where it connects to the remaining esophagus.
