First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested whether a specific nerve block (erector spinae plane block) could prevent the diaphragm (the main breathing muscle) from weakening after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in severely obese patients. 80 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block or a placebo. The main goal was to see if the block reduced the chance of diaphragm problems two hours after surgery.
