Sniff your sedation? study tests nasal spray to make scopes safer

NCT ID NCT07204106

Summary

This study tested whether giving a sedative as a nasal spray before a complex endoscopic procedure (ERCP) is safer and works better than the standard intravenous (IV) method. Researchers compared three groups: one got the sedative via nasal spray, one got it via IV, and one got the standard sedation alone. The main goal was to see if the nasal spray could reduce drops in blood oxygen levels during the procedure, lower the total drug dose needed, and help patients wake up feeling better afterward.
