New scope procedure could spare appendicitis patients from surgery

NCT ID NCT07230379

Summary

This study is testing whether a new, non-surgical procedure is as good as standard surgery for treating mild appendicitis. The new procedure, called ERAT, uses a flexible tube (scope) passed through the colon to clean out the infected appendix instead of removing it. Researchers will compare ERAT to standard keyhole surgery in 376 adults to see which leads to better recovery and fewer complications.
