New epidural method may offer better pain relief during childbirth
NCT ID NCT06849726
First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study compared two methods of epidural pain relief during labor: the standard technique and a newer one called dural puncture epidural (DPE). In DPE, the doctor makes a small hole in the spinal lining before placing the epidural tube, but no medication is injected into the spinal fluid. The goal was to see which method used less pain medicine and provided better pain control. 100 women having vaginal births took part, and researchers measured pain scores, side effects, and satisfaction.
