Protein and pumping iron: new study aims to stop muscle loss after Weight-Loss surgery

NCT ID NCT07156552

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking extra protein every day and doing a supervised strength training session once a week can help people who have had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery keep their muscle mass. About 400 adults scheduled for surgery will be randomly assigned to either standard care or standard care plus the protein and exercise program. The goal is to see if the extra support reduces the amount of muscle lost after surgery.
