Talking therapy for therapists: could a counseling style boost rehab success in spinal cord injury?

NCT ID NCT07364773

First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 30, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether training physical and occupational therapists in motivational interviewing—a counseling style that encourages motivation—helps people with spinal cord injury or disorder participate more actively in their rehab sessions. About 180 patients will have their therapy sessions recorded, and researchers will compare participation and recovery between those whose therapists received the training and those who did not. The goal is to see if this approach leads to better function and community integration after discharge.
