New surgical technique may cut bladder cancer recurrence

NCT ID NCT07347132

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested two surgical methods for removing early-stage bladder tumors that haven't spread to muscle. One method removes the tumor in one piece (en bloc), while the standard method removes it in multiple pieces. Researchers wanted to see if the one-piece method gives better tissue samples and lowers the chance of the cancer coming back. The trial involved 116 adults and followed them for 15 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

En Bloc Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (surgical procedure)

What this could lead to

If en bloc resection proves better, it could become the preferred surgical method for early bladder cancer, potentially lowering recurrence rates and improving diagnosis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center trial with 116 patients, so results may not apply broadly. The technique is still not standard, and long-term benefits are unproven.
