New surgical technique could cut bladder cancer recurrence
NCT ID NCT05223491
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two surgical methods for removing non-muscle invasive bladder tumors. The new method removes the tumor in one piece, while the standard method removes it in fragments. Researchers want to see if the one-piece approach leads to better tumor removal and fewer recurrences. The trial includes 220 patients with tumors between 1 and 6 cm.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
En Bloc resection procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this surgical technique could lower the chance of bladder cancer coming back and reduce the need for repeat surgeries.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial with 220 patients. The procedure may not prove better than standard surgery, and results may not apply to all patients.
