NCT ID NCT07207512

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) can reduce symptoms of Prolonged Grief Disorder in adults who have lost a loved one. 128 participants will be randomly assigned to either 8-10 weekly therapy sessions or a self-help program. Researchers will measure grief, anxiety, depression, and overall distress over 12 months to see if EFT offers a better way to cope.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for grief
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, emotion-focused treatment option for people with prolonged grief disorder who don't benefit from standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small early-stage trial (128 people) comparing therapy to self-help, not a proven treatment. Results may not apply to everyone, and the self-help group may show less improvement.
