Can emotions predict chronic pain in kids after surgery?

NCT ID NCT05816174

First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how children's emotions—like mood swings and how they handle feelings—might affect their risk of developing long-term pain after major surgery. About 1 in 5 children experience chronic pain after surgery, which can harm their quality of life. Researchers will follow 281 children aged 8 to 18 for a year, tracking pain and emotions before and after surgery to identify factors that increase or decrease risk.
