Summary

Researchers in Pakistan are comparing two psychological treatments, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depression. The trial enrolls 100 adults aged 18 to 60 at two rehabilitation centers. Participants receive one of the therapies, and researchers measure changes in PTSD and depression symptoms at baseline, during treatment, after treatment, and six months later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
What this could lead to
If one therapy proves more effective, it could guide treatment choices for PTSD and depression in Pakistan and similar settings.
What could go wrong
This is a small trial at two rehabilitation centers, so results may not apply broadly. Both therapies are well established, but individual responses vary and some people may not improve.
