Can a trauma therapy break the cycle of addiction?

NCT ID NCT05488691

Summary

This study tested whether EMDR therapy, a treatment often used for trauma, could help people with substance use disorders who also have a history of psychological trauma. Researchers worked with 64 participants who were not actively using drugs to see if the therapy could reduce cravings, delay relapse, and change stress-related brain activity. They measured outcomes like time to relapse, stress hormone levels, and brain connectivity to understand how the therapy might work.
