Zap your gut? electrical stimulation may ease spinal injury bowel woes

NCT ID NCT04307303

Summary

This study tested whether gentle electrical stimulation on the abdomen could help people with spinal cord injuries manage their bowel problems more easily. Thirty-six participants with spinal cord injuries tried either real or very low 'sham' stimulation for 12 weeks while tracking their bowel routines and quality of life. The goal was to see if this approach could reduce the time and discomfort spent on daily bowel management.
