Shocking the gut: could electricity replace finger stretching for bowel relief?

NCT ID NCT06078176

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is for people with spinal cord injury who have trouble emptying their bowels. Normally, they use a gloved finger to stretch the rectum to help things move. The researchers want to see if using a mild electrical zap instead works just as well or better. If it does, it could lead to a new, less invasive way to manage bowel problems.
