Stretch or mobilize? new study tests two therapies for sciatica pain
NCT ID NCT07328282
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two physical therapy techniques—ELDOA (a sustained stretching method) and Spinal Mobilization with Limb Movement (SMWLM)—for treating lumbar radiculopathy, commonly known as sciatica. Thirty-six adults aged 30-50 with mild disc herniation will receive one of the two treatments plus standard physiotherapy for four weeks. The goal is to see which approach better reduces pain and disability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ELDOA (a stretching technique) and Spinal Mobilization with Limb Movement (SMWLM)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a better physical therapy approach for managing lumbar radiculopathy pain and improving mobility.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares two non-drug procedures, so any benefit is likely modest and not a cure.
