Could earlier aspirin after stroke save more brains?
NCT ID NCT07563673
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether giving a low-dose aspirin just 2 hours after clot-busting treatment for stroke is better than waiting the standard 24 hours. About 210 adults aged 18-65 who had a stroke will be randomly assigned to get aspirin early or at the usual time. The goal is to see if early aspirin leads to better recovery and fewer complications like re-clogged arteries.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Aspirin (low-dose, 100 mg)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could change guidelines to start aspirin earlier after clot-busting treatment, potentially reducing the risk of re-clogged arteries and improving recovery for stroke patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 210 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. Giving aspirin earlier also raises a small risk of bleeding in the brain, which the study is carefully monitoring.
