New weekly shot could fight deadly mould infections with fewer side effects
NCT ID NCT07215273
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests whether a new drug called EL219 (Turletricin) is safe and effective for early treatment of invasive mould infections in people with weakened immune systems, such as those who have had a bone marrow transplant. About 60 participants will receive either EL219 once a week or standard antifungals (liposomal amphotericin B or voriconazole). The study measures survival at 21 days and tracks side effects, aiming to see if EL219 can offer a simpler and less toxic alternative.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EL219 (Turletricin)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a safer, once-weekly antifungal option for people with weakened immune systems who are at risk of serious mould infections.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug could still cause side effects or fail to work better than existing treatments.
