Eggshells vs. cow bone: cheaper graft shows promise for saving jawbone

NCT ID NCT07404098

First seen Feb 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study compares a new, low-cost bone graft made from eggshells (nanohydroxyapatite) combined with a patient's own blood concentrate (PRF) against a standard cow-bone graft for preserving jawbone after a molar is pulled. About 34 adults with a back tooth that must be removed will receive one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if the eggshell material maintains bone density and shape just as well, offering a cheaper and more natural option for future dental implants.
