Can a chatbot replace a nurse to keep frequent ER patients out of the hospital?

NCT ID NCT06818825

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looked at whether reaching out to people who often use the emergency room (ER) can help them find better ways to manage their health. Over 1,100 adults who had visited the ER at least 4 times in the past 6 months were randomly assigned to get either a phone call from a health worker or an interactive chatbot message after their ER visit. The goal was to see if either method reduced the number of return trips to the ER.
