Greener anesthesia tested to reduce Surgery's environmental footprint
NCT ID NCT07363681
Summary
This study is testing whether an intravenous drug called dexmedetomidine can be used instead of traditional inhaled gases to keep patients asleep during common urological surgeries. The goal is to find an anesthesia method that works just as well but is better for the environment, as the inhaled gases are potent greenhouse pollutants. Researchers will compare recovery quality and vital sign stability in 150 adults aged 39 and older having procedures like kidney stone removal or prostate surgery.
