Blood-Cleaning filter tested as lifeline for failing hearts
NCT ID NCT05027529
Summary
This study tested whether adding a special blood filter (CytoSorb) to a heart-lung support machine (VA-ECMO) could help stabilize critically ill patients with cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition where the heart can't pump enough blood. Researchers randomly assigned 42 patients to receive either the standard ECMO circuit or the ECMO circuit with the added filter. The main goal was to see if the filter helped patients need less heart-stimulating medication within 72 hours.
