Can hamstring curls get footballers back on the pitch faster?
NCT ID NCT07115316
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether adding eccentric hamstring contractions (like Nordic curls) to standard physiotherapy can improve sports performance and quality of life in young male football players with a mild, non-contact ACL injury. About 180 players aged 19-25 from the UAE will be randomly assigned to either the special hamstring program or standard physiotherapy. The main goal is to see if they can jump higher after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
eccentric hamstring contractions and physiotherapy exercises
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better rehabilitation program for young athletes with mild ACL injuries, helping them return to sport faster and with less risk of re-injury.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 180 participants, all young male football players in the UAE, so results may not apply to other groups. The exercises are non-invasive but may not outperform standard physiotherapy.
