MRNA vaccine aims to shield transplant patients from EBV threat
NCT ID NCT07674199
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tests an experimental mRNA vaccine (WGc-0401) designed to prevent diseases caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in people who have received a stem cell transplant. Twenty participants will receive three vaccine injections after transplant and be closely monitored for safety and immune response. The goal is to find the best dose and see if the vaccine can reduce EBV-related complications like post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EBV mRNA vaccine (WGc-0401 injection)
What this could lead to
If successful, this vaccine could help prevent serious EBV-related complications in stem cell transplant recipients, improving survival and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (20 participants) focused on safety and dosing. The vaccine may not provide sufficient protection or could cause side effects like graft-versus-host disease.
