Thirsty kids may not need to wait: early drinks after surgery studied
NCT ID NCT06937684
First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looked at whether children aged 1 to 8 can safely drink clear fluids one hour after outpatient surgery instead of waiting two hours. 172 children were randomly assigned to drink at either 1 or 2 hours after anesthesia. The goal was to see if earlier drinking increases vomiting or other risks. The findings help doctors decide the best timing for offering fluids to kids after surgery.
