Smart drain could spot dangerous leaks before symptoms start
NCT ID NCT04582708
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study tested a device that continuously measures the acidity and electrical properties of fluid draining from the belly after surgery. The goal was to see if changes in these readings could warn doctors early about complications like internal leaks or fistulas. Over 300 adults who had abdominal surgery and a drain in place took part. The device was found safe and collected data to help build a model for future early detection.
