New test could slash unnecessary antibiotics in ventilator pneumonia patients
NCT ID NCT07267624
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a rapid test (multiplex PCR) can help doctors choose the right antibiotics sooner for intensive care patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia. About 170 adults on ventilators for at least 48 hours will be randomly assigned to either the rapid test or standard methods. The goal is to see if the rapid test reduces the time patients spend on strong, broad-spectrum antibiotics without harming their recovery.
