Breakthrough gel could fix eardrums without surgery

NCT ID NCT02307916

Summary

This study tested whether a gel containing a natural growth factor (FGF-2) could heal long-standing holes in the eardrum. 57 adults with chronic perforations applied the gel or a placebo up to three times. The main goal was to see if the gel could safely and effectively close the hole, potentially avoiding the need for surgery.
