New ear mold could offer cheaper fix for baby ear shapes
NCT ID NCT06431698
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a custom-made silicone ear mold works as well as the standard EarWell device for correcting ear deformities in newborns. About 134 infants between 8 days and 1 month old will be enrolled. The goal is to see if the hospital-made device is a good alternative to the commercial one.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Custom-made silicone ear mold and adjustable EarWell device
What this could lead to
If the custom-made device works as well as the EarWell, it could offer a more affordable or accessible option for correcting ear shape in newborns.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage comparison study. The custom device may not correct deformities as effectively, and results may not apply to all types of ear malformations.
