Can a simple supplement speed up spine surgery recovery?
NCT ID NCT07341399
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking essential amino acid supplements before and after spinal surgery helps adults with spinal deformity recover better. Twenty participants will take either the supplement or a placebo for two weeks before surgery and three months after. Researchers will measure muscle protein building, body composition, handgrip strength, and walking ability to see if the supplement makes a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
essential amino acid supplement
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to help people recover faster and stronger after spinal surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early trial with only 20 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement may not improve recovery more than a placebo.
