New pill combo aims to keep blood cancer at bay
NCT ID NCT07154264
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing a combination of two oral drugs, DZD8586 and venetoclax, in people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia or small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) who have not yet been treated. The study will first check safety, then see if the combination can keep the cancer from progressing for at least two years. About 66 adults will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DZD8586 (birelentinib) and venetoclax
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option that helps control CLL/SLL for longer without the disease getting worse.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 study with only 66 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects from the drug combination are possible and not yet fully known.
