Cheaper pain relief after breast surgery? new trial puts generic to the test
NCT ID NCT07154446
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares a generic painkiller (Parestat) to the original brand-name drug (Dynastat) for pain after breast surgery. Sixty adults having a breast biopsy will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two drugs during surgery. Researchers will measure pain levels and side effects over 24 hours to see if the generic works just as well.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
parecoxib (a painkiller given intravenously during surgery)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that the cheaper generic version is just as good as the original for managing post-surgery pain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. There is also a chance the generic is slightly less effective.
