Can pairing up surgeons save training time without sacrificing skill?
NCT ID NCT06612619
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares training two surgeons at once (dyad instruction) versus the usual one-on-one method for learning how to fix a broken hip on a simulator. The goal is to see if dyad training is just as good, which could help train more surgeons with fewer instructors. About 62 junior doctors will participate, and researchers will track how many practice sessions each needs to reach a mastery level.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dyad instruction (training in pairs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could allow more surgeons to be trained without needing extra instructors, making simulation courses more accessible.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 62 participants. Dyad training may not work as well for complex procedures, and results may not apply to all surgical skills.
