Can a simple MRI spot uterine cancer without a biopsy?

NCT ID NCT07402421

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test whether a special type of MRI called diffusion-weighted imaging can accurately tell the difference between benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) growths in the lining of the uterus. Researchers will compare the MRI results with the standard method—examining tissue under a microscope after a biopsy. The goal is to see if the MRI can be a reliable, non-invasive alternative for diagnosis. The study plans to enroll 30 women with abnormal uterine bleeding or suspicious findings on ultrasound.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI MRI)

What this could lead to

If successful, DWI MRI could become a reliable non-invasive way to diagnose endometrial lesions, potentially reducing the need for invasive biopsies.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage diagnostic study with only 30 participants. The accuracy may not be high enough to replace biopsy, and results may not apply to all patients.
