Study reveals hidden immune link in kids with unexplained low white blood cells
NCT ID NCT06547931
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study looked at 150 children with a genetic trait called Duffy-null, which is linked to naturally low neutrophil counts (a type of white blood cell). The goal was to find out how many of these children also have an immune system that attacks their own neutrophils, causing a condition called immune neutropenia. Researchers also tracked how low the counts were and whether that led to more infections. The study did not test any new treatments, but aimed to better understand this condition in children.
