New cement formula aims to slash dangerous hip surgery infections in elderly
NCT ID NCT05164081
Summary
This large study is testing whether using bone cement containing two antibiotics is better than the standard single-antibiotic cement at preventing serious joint infections after hip replacement surgery for a broken hip. It involves about 7,000 patients aged 60 and older across Sweden. The goal is to see if the dual-antibiotic cement can cut the infection risk in half within the first year after surgery.
