New brain wave map may help reduce anesthesia drug use during surgery

Summary
This study looked at 45 women having gynecological surgery under general anesthesia. Researchers compared a standard brain monitor (BIS) that gives a single number with a newer monitor (DSA) that shows a detailed color map of brain waves. The goal was to see if the detailed map helps doctors give just the right amount of anesthesia and pain medicine, possibly using less medication.
