Dry needling vs. placebo: new study tests pain relief for knots in neck and shoulders

NCT ID NCT07270276

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests if dry needling—a treatment where thin needles are inserted into tight muscle knots—can reduce pain in people with myofascial pain syndrome. Researchers will compare it to a placebo and use special tools like ultrasound to measure muscle changes. About 70 adults with a trigger point in the trapezius muscle (neck/shoulder area) will participate, visiting the clinic twice and completing daily pain surveys.
