New injection could halt leading cause of blindness in seniors

Summary
This late-stage clinical trial is testing whether daily injections of an experimental drug called elamipretide can slow the progression of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of vision loss in older adults. The study involves 313 participants who will receive either the active drug or a placebo injection for 96 weeks. Researchers will measure whether the treatment reduces the rate of photoreceptor loss in the retina and helps preserve vision.
