New hope for bile duct cancer patients who failed chemo: triple therapy shows promise

NCT ID NCT04834674

First seen Apr 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 08, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tested a combination of three treatments—drug-coated beads placed directly into the liver tumor, an oral targeted drug (apatinib), and an immunotherapy (PD-1 antibody)—in 20 adults with advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (a type of bile duct cancer) that had worsened after standard first-line chemotherapy. The goal was to see if this approach could shrink tumors and delay cancer growth. The trial is now complete, and results will help determine if this combination offers a new treatment option for patients with limited alternatives.
