First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study in Vietnam tested whether providing community-based mental health care to people who inject drugs with depression, psychosis, or suicide risk could improve their mental health and reduce their exposure to HIV and hepatitis C. Researchers followed 200 participants with mental health conditions and 400 without, offering free psychiatric consultations and medications. The goal was to see if treated individuals could achieve similar viral risk levels and quality of life as those without mental health issues.
