Liver donors may skip the drain: new study tests safety.

NCT ID NCT06769776

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether it is safe to not place a drainage tube in the belly after a person donates part of their liver. Normally, a drain is used to watch for bleeding or bile leaks, but it can also cause infections and pain. About 80 liver donors will be randomly assigned to get a drain or not, and their overall complications will be compared using a special score.
