Alzheimer's drug trial aims to boost hearing in implant users

NCT ID NCT05438264

Summary

This study is testing whether a medication called donepezil can help adults with cochlear implants understand speech better. Donepezil is currently used for Alzheimer's disease and is thought to help the brain adapt to new sounds from the implant. Fifty participants will take either donepezil or a placebo pill for three months while also trying to use their implant more often to see if it improves their hearing.
