Ice vs stretching for sore muscles: which works best?

NCT ID NCT07624032

First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested three treatments for delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in 29 untrained adults. Participants did exercises to cause soreness, then received either proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (a type of stretching), local cryotherapy (ice), or a placebo (sugar water). The main goal was to see which treatment best reduced pain and improved movement. Results may help people choose simple ways to recover after exercise.
